Scenic Cruises Explores the “Gems of the Danube”

SCENIC CRUISES IMMERSES GUESTS IN THE “GEMS OF THE DANUBE” DURING EIGHT-DAY ALL-INCLUSIVE RIVER CRUISE

Early Bookings Enjoy “Partner Flies Free” Promotion and Savings up to $520 per Balcony Stateroom

Scenic Cruises Does Gems of the Danube

Scenic Cruises guests are immersed in the historically-rich cities of Germany, charmed by Austria’s romantic settings, and explore Hungary’s thriving capital city of Budapest on the eight-day “Gems of the Danube” river cruise aboard the company’s deluxe “Space-Ships.”

In addition to these three countries, guests have the choice to visit the medieval Czech town of Cesky Krumlov and Slovakia’s capital city of Bratislava on two of the many optional excursions that are included as standard on all of the company’s cruises — the only major river cruise line to offer as standard that which is additional on other lines.

The company’s “no hidden costs” policy means guests are able to leave their money in their pocket when it comes to all aspects of the cruise save personal expenditures.  And to help with costs even more, guests booking by Feb. 29 save on air with the “Partner Flies Free” promotion or a price reduction of up to $520 on select staterooms and departures.

Prices for the seven departure dates between April and Sept., before reductions, range from $3,490 to $5,595 per person, double.  An 11-day version of the itinerary, adding three nights in Prague, is also available.  The “Partner Flies Free” program, good for non-balcony outside staterooms (available on nearly every departure), requires booking air through Scenic Cruises, appropriate airline class availability and does not include flight taxes.

Guests spend two days in Nuremberg, where history fans get a first-hand view with a guided tour of the Old Town, the Justice Palace and Imperial Castle, and the Nuremberg Rallies site, while a walking tour of Regensburg takes in the city’s well known impressive architecture – most prominently, the well-known German Gothic Dom – as well as offering insight into its “liquid bread,” otherwise known as beer.  A “Scenic Free Choice,” a chance for guests to choose from several options on a certain day, means deciding between three activities in three countries: a guided tour of Passau and an afternoon cruising through the European Alps; a visit to Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and the setting of the classic film “The Sound of Music”; or a full-day excursion to the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov.

In Austria, the ship ports in Melk for a tour of the 11th-century Benedictine Abbey, where guests are entertained with an exclusive organ recital performed by one of the Benedictine monks.  Guests experience romantic wine country as the ship sails through the wine region of the Wachau Valley and the quaint wine town of Dürnstein, while in Vienna they can learn about the city’s famous sites from either a well-informed tour guide or a self-guided audio tour.

A second “Scenic Free Choice” allows for a choice between a guided tour of the lavish Schönbrunn Palace, a Rococo masterpiece surrounded by a well-kept garden; a guided excursion to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava; a visit to the oldest Classic Dressage riding school in the world; or watching the famous Lipizzaner Stallions perfect their skills.

Guests enjoy a glass of Austrian “sekt” at the Palais Liechtenstein before sitting for a private evening concert celebrating the music of Strauss and Mozart.  The “Scenic Free Choice” in Budapest offers a visit the Thermal Baths and Spa, a tour of the lime stone caves under the Labyrinth of Castle Buda or an exploration of classical Hungarian music at the Liszt House and museum.

Scenic Cruises operates the newest and most luxurious fleet of river cruise ships in Europe.  Its five ‘Space-Ships’, increasing to seven this spring, sail river voyages throughout Europe, Russia and Egypt, ranging from seven to 21 nights.

Guests enjoy larger staterooms and suites, more than 80% with full-size balconies, private butler service in Junior and Royal Suites, private concerts, exclusive performances, onboard entertainment, tour leaders, meals in a choice of three dining venues – served with complimentary premium wines, beers and soft drinks, escorted airport transfers – even gratuities and baggage handling – all included in the fare.

Scenic Cruises parent company, Scenic Tours, offers award-winning all-inclusive escorted tours in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere.  Additional information on these and other cruises, brochures and reservations, can be obtained from travel agents, Global Voyages Group, LLC – US Representative for Scenic Tours and Scenic Cruises, or  the company’s visitor-friendly web site, ; by phone: (866) 689-8611; or by email: info@scenictoursus.com.  Brochures can be downloaded directly from the web site.

FRENCH COUNTRY WATERWAYS DELUXE 8-PASSENGER PRINCESS DELIVERS LUXURY ON ITS UPPER LOIRE VALLEY CRUISE

Guests Enjoy Gourmet Cuisine, Grand Cru Wines, Private Touring, Historic Visits and a Michelin-starred Dinner

Cruising the Upper Loire Valley

Following a successful return to the Upper Loire Valley in 2011, French Country Waterways’ luxury eight-passenger Princess is returning to the same route again in 2012.  The well-appointed barge, formerly the private barge of shipping magnate Daniel K. Ludwig, sails between Châtillon-sur-Loire and Montargis every Sunday from April 1 through Oct. 28.

Highlights of the sailing include a private cellar tour and wine tasting in the charming village of Sancerre; dinner ashore at the Michelin-starred Auberge des Templiers in les Bezards; a visit to the medieval town of Gien, a leading center for French faience; and a day trip – including lunch – to the magnificent Chateau de Chambord, the largest of the Loire Valley chateaux.  Guests are escorted via private motorcoach to and from Paris.  Prices for the weekly Sunday departures, April through October, range from $5,495 to $6,695 per person, double.

The Princess accommodates up to eight guests in four suites, each with king-size beds, and is outfitted with a number of areas to dine and relax: a salon with large picture windows and a well-stocked bar, a formal dining room, a library, a powder room and a canopied sundeck for unwinding or enjoying al fresco meals.

The six-night luxury sailings delve into French culture both on board and ashore with a bevy of upscale amenities that are standard on all of the French Country Waterways cruises: attentive service from a crew fluent in English and French, daily sightseeing excursions and private wine tastings, time to relax on the sundeck and walk or bicycle along canal towpaths and the option of hot-air ballooning.

All breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included, each a true French experience: pastries and breads, bought locally each morning, and freshly squeezed juices for breakfast; innovative cuisine prepared by talented chefs, who use fresh, seasonal ingredients to create classic French fare; and, of course, the Michelin-starred meal at Auberge des Templiers in les Bezards.

Additionally, lunch and dinner are accompanied by a selection of Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines, chosen from a pre-season tasting of nearly 200 bottles, and three new cheeses at each meal, ranging from popular French varieties to small, locally-sourced cheeses.

For 28 years French Country Waterways has been offering elegant vacation experiences aboard its own fleet of luxury canal barges.  The barges are available for individual bookings and for charter by families, friends and groups up to 12.  Special room rates are offered at several deluxe hotels in Paris for guests wishing to extend their stay.

Windstar Cruises Unveils New Renderings for Wind Star and Wind Spirit Renovations

New, Stylish Look is Part of Windstar’s $18 Million Fleet Refurbishment Plan

Windstar Cruises, which operates a fleet of three luxury sailing yachts that explore hidden harbors and secluded coves of the world’s most treasured destinations, unveils renderings for Wind Star and Wind Spirit renovations, which can be viewed on Windstar’s blog:http://blog.windstarcruises.com.

The renovations are part of Windstar’s previously announced $18 million fleet refurbishment plan. The vision for the renovations is classic, stylish yacht luxury that dramatizes Windstar’s brand position of a “boutique yacht vacation” that is “180 Degrees from Ordinary.”

Each yacht will receive new furniture, upholstery, art, lighting, wall coverings, carpeting, ceiling finishes, window treatments, and floor coverings. New furnishings will complete the look in keeping with the chic, private yacht scheme. The design palette combines sand and marine colors contrasting elegantly with the warmth of wood finishes, elevating the look and feel to stylish luxury at sea.

All three yachts will be completely refurbished by December 2012 starting with the Wind Star on April 29 as it begins its European season. Upgrades to the staterooms and suites are a special focus of the fleet refurbishment plan.

Staterooms will be transformed with new leather headboards, stately arm chairs, linen wall coverings, new lighting features, elegant window coverings, plush wool carpeting, art work, stylish bed cushions, and luxurious bed throws. The owner’s suite on each yacht will be additionally outfitted with new furniture that is easily convertible to lounging, dining, or accommodating a third occupant.

This past December, as part of the refurbishment plan, Wind Surf’s accommodations and corridors were renovated. The yacht’s staterooms now feature leather headboards, stately arm chairs, linen wall coverings, new lighting features, elegant window coverings, plush wool carpeting, art work and stylish bed cushions.

Suites were additionally outfitted with new furniture that converts easily to lounging, dining, or accommodating a third occupant. Corridors were completely renovated from floor to ceiling with new wall coverings, carpeting, ceiling finishes, lighting and art work. To see Wind Surf’s new look for accommodations and corridors, visit Windstar’s blog:http://blog.windstarcruises.com.

All public spaces on the Wind Star will also be renovated for the start of the 2012 European season including The Restaurant, Veranda, Lounge, Pool Bar, Library, and WindSpa.

The Restaurant will receive a complete makeover to create the excitement and drama of an exclusive destination restaurant with luxurious neutral tones and curved design elements.

The Veranda will be renewed with new lighting, fresh “market-style” buffet arrangements and reconfigured indoor/outdoor seating.

The Lounge will be contemporized with new furniture, seating arrangements, window treatments and the addition of a piano bar, creating an ideal, welcoming space for evening entertainment.

The Pool Bar will be redesigned to offer a more engaging and upscale social experience and to create additional alfresco seating for sunset dining at Candles Grill.

The renovations to the Library space will create an intimate, luxurious cocoon for more contemplative pursuits.

WindSpa will also receive an interior soft goods update, to reflect the sophistication and elegance of relaxing with spa treatments at sea.

Wind Spirit’s and Wind Surf’s public spaces will be refurbished in November 2012 before the start of their December Caribbean seasons with Wind Spirit receiving the same public space refurbishments as Wind Star. Wind Surf’s renovation encompasses the Lounge, The Restaurant, Degrees, Veranda, Compass Rose, WindSpa, Yacht Club and Pool Bar.

·        In the Lounge, wall-to-wall carpeting will be replaced with hard flooring accented with inset rugs, a contemporary mix of furniture, lighter color palette and improved sound insulation around the casino.

·        The Restaurant will be completed with a new seating layout, all new soft goods, and state-of-the art wine display and storage.

·        Degrees Restaurant will be transformed into a Mediterranean bistro, anchored by a central wine bar for counter dining as well as an inviting area to relax before and after dinner. Wine tastings and cooking demonstrations will also be conducted here.

·        The Veranda’s outdoor seating will be significantly expanded, creating an ideal mid-ship area for enjoying breakfast and lunch alfresco. The interior will include a new buffet, new lighting, and epicurean style display counters.

·        The Compass Rose will be reconfigured to open up expansively to the adjoining outdoor deck, and its interior completely renovated to reflect the sophisticated elegance of a private club.

·        The Pool Bar will sport new awnings for additional shade, new deck furniture, and improved outdoor dining layout for Candles Grill.

Sapphire Princess Enters Drydock to Add Signature Feature

Sapphire Princess Undergoing Makeover

Dramatic Makeover to Include Piazza Atrium, Movies Under the Stars, Alfredo’s Pizzeria

Sapphire Princess is undergoing a dramatic four-week transformation at the Victoria Shipyards drydock in British Columbia. The drydock continues a multi-year fleet renovation process that has brought Princess Cruises’ signature features to most of its ships.

When the ship re-enters service again on February 4, passengers will be able to enjoy a brand-new Piazza atrium with the International Café and Vines wine bar, plus the new Alfredo’s Pizzeria. On the top decks, passengers will enjoy poolside movies on the new giant Movies Under the Stars screen, and an opportunity to relax in the ship’s “pocket of tranquility,” the adults-only Sanctuary.

“It’s been an incredible process over the past few years to retrofit these popular features onto our earlier-introduced ships, but we know our passengers appreciate that they can now find their favorite amenities on virtually any vessel in our fleet,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president.

Throughout the drydock, Princess is featuring a daily photo highlight of the transformation on its social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Google+.

The many changes to Sapphire Princess include:

New Piazza Atrium – The ship’s atrium space will be redesigned to include this signature Princess feature – a European-inspired social hub of the ship combining always-changing quick bites and light meals, beverages, entertainment, shopping and guest services. The Piazza will feature the International Café for pastries, fresh panini sandwiches, salads, fresh-baked cookies and a variety of coffee drinks. Passengers will also enjoy a new Vines wine bar offering a selection of more than 30 wines by the glass, plus a selection of tapas and sushi, and a wine shop where passengers can purchase their favorite bottle.

Alfredo’s Pizzeria – Introduced last year aboard Grand Princess, Alfredo’s will expand to its second location on Sapphire Princess. The sit-down pizzeria serves up an enticing menu of freshly prepared, hand-stretched, individual-size pizzas. Named for the line’s master executive chef, Alfredo Marzi, the pizzeria will feature an open kitchen where passengers can watch chefs create their custom-made pies.

Movies Under the Stars – Sapphire Princess will be the final ship to introduce Movies Under the Stars on board. The giant poolside movie screen will showcase feature films, concerts, awards shows and sports events, and passengers can enjoy their viewing on padded loungers under warm, fleece blankets. Complimentary popcorn and other treats enhance the al fresco entertainment experience.

The Sanctuary – Sapphire Princess is also the final ship to receive The Sanctuary, a tranquil retreat exclusively for adults. Added prior to drydock, the new Sanctuary space has already received an enthusiastic welcome from passengers enjoying the enhanced comforts of this peaceful oasis, as Serenity Stewards attend to their every need, offering refreshing beverages, light snacks, pre-loaded MP3 players, and the cooling mist of an Evian atomizer.

Also part of the renovation are several relocated and upgraded venues, including the Art Gallery, Internet Café and Library, and the Photo-Video Gallery. New carpet and upholstery will be installed throughout the ship, and staterooms will feature new flat-screen televisions.

The newly renovated Sapphire Princess will debut on February 4 in Los Angeles when the ship will depart on a 14-day Hawaiian Islands cruise.
