French Country Waterways is offering a 40% discount on two select cruises, to Champagne in May and to Alsace-Lorraine in October.

French Country Waterways is the premier provider of French barge cruises, and the only one that is entirely American-owned and operated. T o mark the anniversary of the launch of its Princess barge in 1973, the company was inspired to offer these discounts, which bring starting rates to $3,897 per person, double on the Champagne itinerary and $3,597 on the Alsace-Lorraine journey.

In Champagne, guests explore the Gothic Cathedral of Reims; enjoy a private tour and tasting at the House of Ployez-Jacquemart; tour the vast cellars of Moët & Chandon, followed by a champagne tasting; visit the American Cemetery and World War I battlefields at Belleau Wood; and dine at the Michelin-starred Les Crayères. Highlightsin Alsace-Lorraine include visits to Place Stanislas, one of the most beautiful and distinguished squares in all of Europe; the magnificent gardens of the 18th-century Château de Lunéville; and the 12th-century cathedral made of pink Vosges sandstone in cosmopolitan Strasbourg. On this trip, the highlighted dinner ashore takes place at Michelin-starred Le Cerf in Marlenheim.

French Country Waterways prides itself on the level of service extended to guests, the level of relaxation those guests can achieve on their week-long tours, and the all-inclusive nature of the experience. Escorted from the central meeting point in Paris (Champagne) or Strasbourg (Alsace-Lorraine) guests are greeted by an English-speaking crew with a glass of champagne and settle in aboard their floating fine country inn. Each suite is individually air-conditioned and features a private bath and a king-sized bed (twins upon request). Common areas are attractively furnished and complimentary bars are well stocked.

Meals are a special experience on these excursions – both on board and on shore. A highlight of every French Country Waterways cruise is the on-shore meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant — but dining onboard is unparalleled, too. Drawing upon the rich culinary heritage of the region, French Country Waterways’ chefs combine classic cooking techniques with the modern trend of lighter cuisine and produce results that earn raves.

Passengers enjoy continental breakfasts, buffet lunches, and four-course, candlelit dinners. They indulge in fresh breads and buttery croissants that are brought onboard still warm from the villages they pass, unique French cheeses, prime meats and fish, and garden-ripe fruits and vegetables the crew gathers at farmers’ markets en route. During the average cruise, passengers will be offered more than two dozen different wines, many with well-known labels from Grand Cru or Premier Cru vineyards.

It’s always easy for guests to step ashore for a leisurely stroll, take one of the barge’s bicycles out to explore the quaint villages nearby, relax on the sundeck and watch the French countryside float by, or even explore the region via hot-air balloon. During the day, guests can also board the private, deluxe motorcoach that accompanies each barge and visit local points of interest.

Each of French Country Waterways’ four barges is available for individual bookings and for charter groups of up to 12 guests. Special room rates are offered at the designated meeting point hotels in Paris and/or Strasbourg for guests wishing to extend their stay.
