Regent Seven Seas Explorer Christened in Monte Carlo
Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco christens the Regent Seven Seas Explorer.
Monte Carlo, the most glamorous city in the world was the appropriate venue for christening the Regent Seven Seas Explorer, the most luxurious ship ever built. Hundreds of cruise executives,travel partners, press and distinguished guests gathered under a perfect blue sky for this gala black tie event that was streamed live all over the world.
As a prelude to the ceremony, images of the ship’s construction and the ports she will visit were projected on a huge screen.
Kevin Frazier of Entertainment Tonight acted as master of ceremonies. The orchestra known as Les Solistes of Monte Carlo accompanied soprano Lisa \kuhnen as she sang The Star Spangled Banner and tenor Frederic Diqueuro as he performed a stirring rendition of the Monaguesque national anthem, Hymne Monegasque.
Speakers included Jason Montague, president & COO of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Captain Stanislas de Lacombe and Frank Del Rio, president & CEO, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
The Explorer was blessed by Rabbi Daniel Torgmant and Monseigneur Guillaume Paris, Vicar General of Monaco’s Diocese.
Then came the magic moment, when the ship’s godmother, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco named the Explorer and sent a Primat bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne across the bow.

The ceremony concluded with a glorious concert by Andrea Bocelli, with songs like Be My Love and Time to Say Goodbye that had the audience on its feet and applauding wildly. It is safe to say that this had to be the most glamorous and luxurious ship christening ever–and that we are not likely to see one like it again for a very, very long time.
