SEA CLOUD & SEA CLOUD II: 5-star rating in the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2019
Sea Cloud II
SEA CLOUD and SEA CLOUD II, boutique ships of Hamburg-based SEA CLOUD CRUISES , have both been awarded 5-star ratings in the latest edition of the Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships 2019. The 5-star rating was given to only one other ship in the guide, which will be available on newsstands on November 1, 2018.
Douglas Ward’s team at Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships tested a total of 300 cruise ships and scored them based on criteria such as ship hardware, accommodation, cuisine, service, entertainment and the general cruise experience. SEA CLOUD is rated second in the Boutique Ships category, moving up from third last year, and fourth overall, with a total score of 1,702 out of 2,000 points. SEA CLOUD II is rated third in the Boutique Ships category, moving up from fourth last year, and fifth overall, with a score of 1,701 out of 2,000 points.
In addition, SEA CLOUD CRUISES is included in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, under top small ships in the world. All the winners will be announced in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler .
“We are very proud of both of these wins for our two ships, the SEA CLOUD and the SEA CLOUD II. We work very hard as a company to offer superior service, outstanding food, top-notch accommodations, and most importantly an authentic sailing experience. It is a thrill to be nationally recognized for our efforts, and we hope both awards will continue to bring awareness to our unique and exceptional ships,” says Daniel Schafer, Managing Director of SEA CLOUD CRUISES.
Launched in 1931, SEA CLOUD is a legendary windjammer that brings back the glamour of a bygone age. The yacht’s original owners were Marjorie Merriweather Post and her husband Edward Hutton. Sister ship SEA CLOUD II was built in 2001. The ships have some of the most spectacular public rooms and cabins at sea. Ports of call in the Caribbean or Europe are unique, and usually not frequented by a dozen other ships. Among the ships’ most notable features are their four masts and 29 sails. Unlike the modern, electronically operated sailing ships in the industry, all sailing is done by hand.
